Nutrition, microbiota, and lifelong health

About

Nutrition affects all aspects of animal function, from development until death. We study how nutrition from gut microbiota and diet can be optimised to promote health throughout the lifecourse, and safeguard against states of ill health such as late-life morbidity and metabolic disease. By studying these processes in simple systems like fruit flies (our first choice), nematodes, and cultured cells, we aim to discover principles of nutritional biology that are conserved throughout animals.

Our approach combines genetics in animals and bacteria, physiology, precise dietary manipulations, ‘omics and imaging.

We work in the School of Molecular Biosciences, at the University of Glasgow.
